Hi nukers! Well... the wait is over. PHP-Nuke 8.0 is now released. It includes several improvements, many important cosmetic changes, several minor bugs fixed, complete separation of all BBtoNuke modules from the core system and many more.
I wanted this version to have the planned Metatags management and the new forums, but to be honest I lost almost a complete year moving from Venezuela to Colombia with my family. Since now we're established in our newhome I can resume my normal life and work.
Version 8.0 is very stable and is starting to have a new and nice look with more organization of the site's content and sections.

Now, in the next few days I'll start working with the next version. I think that if the community can wait a few months, the new forums can be made, but this is something that I'll evaluate in the next days. That module is a very BIG work and should be made with care.

Thought I'd post it here too. Please take this as constructive feedback if you're an avid nuke fan lol.

I haven't checked it out yet, there doesn't seem to be much change after such a long time. I don't even know why it's version 8.0 as there wasn't even mich change lol. Also, something very important caught my attention in the article Sasavtec published on my site. FB made a statement on removing the current phpbb integration with the current version of nuke and replace it with his own forum script.

Chances are, many people will ditch nuke after that. (This is just an assumption). Let me state my reasons, pls take this with a pinch of salt:

1)
Firstly, making a forum system is extremely difficult, especially if you're doing it alone. Although the 'concept' behind it is easy, but coding the entire system takes a lot of time and effort. I know because I have built one, and I'm using it for my site. Note that the forums I made for zentri was built completely from scratch and not based off any other forum. It took me about 1 whole month of countless hours of coding to complete it. Even then, the first release was a total pile of shit with tons of bugs.

These are some of the ESSENTIALS that every forum MUST have:
- posting (new posts/replies)
- permissions
- moderation capabilities
- administration
- post counting/updating/deleting/editing
- skinnable
- fast and able to handle LARGE amounts of posts.

Estimating with the way nuke is going now and the predicted time of completion of the next version, it'll be a LONNNNNNNNNNNG time before we see this version come to action. I'll probably be having kids by then lol.

Bugs will definitely exist, there's no doubt about that. There is no such thing as a 'perfect' script. However, the degree of the number of bugs that exist is what counts. PHP-Nuke is well known for poor coding and bug infestation (no offense), there is a high chance the new forum system will have tremendous loads of bugs which will probably affect the functionality of the script. Correct me if I'm wrong, but UNTIL TODAY, the freaking avatar bug in the account module has not been fixed since the integration of phpbb to nuke. I really don't understand this, but for something so simple that can't even be fixed in more than 10 versions of nuke, I really don't have much faith in the new system impressing me with stability.


4)
When you modify an 'existing' system to a new one, it should always be to make the current system better, more powerful, etc.. PHPBB is an amazing forum, extremely robust and fast, and I honestly feel that its better using phpbb as a standalone than the one that comes with nuke lol.

Unless FB builds a forum that is BETTER than phpbb's capabilities, I don't think it'll receive the same response as when nuke changed its forums from 'splatt' to 'phpbb'. Splatt was a pathetic forum back then, and very un-userfriendly. I used it in nuke 5.0 back in the earlier days, and it sucked. PHPBB was a huge improvement to nuke (in fact, it was the key factor that made loads of people use nuke) due to its user-friendliness, robustness, and the simple and professional look.



I have many more things to say about this, but I'll see how it goes. I stopped using nuke due to the problem with stability, and I believe its the same reason why Xtrato did too. Everytime a new version was released, I had to go about RE-securing it because the same bugs still existed. Sometimes I feel sorry for people like Bob Marion and Raven who spend countless hours into making scripts to SECURE nuke all because of nuke's poor coding from the begining.

We need to understand that what people 'want' is something that 'works', not something 'new'. But I'll see how the new version goes.

yes, I totally agree with kenetix, before php nuke released phpbb integration it was just a simple nice scripts, not even, when phpbb came into integration, thats when things started to take shape for the nuke world.

Lets hope they dont make a big mistake lol.
